St. George’s Parish Church was prominent in the life of my English family. My grandfather was baptized there in 1893 by the Reverend John Lund, MA, the vicar at St. George’s in Tyldesley from 1884 – 1920. Reverend Lund also officiated at the weddings of my grandparents and my great aunt, Margaret Whittaker, to William Sharples. Jeff Unsworth provided the photos of St. George’s Parish Church, Reverend Lund, and the memorial plaque that is located inside the church. It is well worth it to spend some time at his website, as he explains the Wigan, Lancashire dialect and has recorded some poems. My grandmother never lost her Lancashire dialect and people always asked her what part of Lancashire she was from, even when she was in her eighties!

Of interest, Jeff explains that he found the photo of Rev. Lund, below, in a house on Shuttle Street that he bought in 1972. My grandfather lived at 114 Shuttle Street. I don’t know the exact dates but he was located there for the 1911 census and was still there when he married in 1918.
