Fodt/Vauth

Fodt/Vauth

Christian Bernhard Vauth was born November 28, 1789 in Stierow, Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin to Johann Friedrich Vauth, Arbeitsmann (workman). On the 1819 Census for Prebberede, he was listed as Bernhard Voth. His mother’s name was not recorded on Bernhard’s marriage certificate nor his death record. Bernhard was also listed as an Arbeitsmann on all his children’s birth records and his own death record. He married Friederica Sophia Elisabeth Struwve October 27, 1826 at the parish church in Schorrentin. I have not located any records for siblings of Bernhard as the records for Stierow are not found on the Schorrentin parish microfilm.

Friederica Sophia Elisabeth Struwve was the eldest of five children born toJoachim Diederich Struwe and Anna Elisabeth Eickhorst on August 29, 1803.

Bernhard and Sophia had five children.
Sophia died February 5, 1860 in Lelkendorf. On her death record, she was documented as Friederica Sophia Fodt, Tagelöhnerfraü (wife of day labourer). Her age at time of death was 56 Jahre (years), 5 Monate (months), 1 Woche (week). The calculated birthdate from this is September 4, 1803 which is remarkably close to the actual birthdate of August 29, 1803. It is quite a feat to be so close when it was unlikely these people were literate enough to have kept their own records of events. Her cause of death appears to say Stichkrankheit which seems to be an indefinite malady but one which would manifest itself with a sharp pain in the side – appendicitis comes to mind as a possible cause fitting this description.

Bernhard died February 8, 1862 in Lelkendorf. On most of the records found for Bernhard, the name Vauth was used throughout. On the 1819 Census for Prebberede, he was listed as Bernhard Voth and on the 1843 confirmation record for his son, Christian, he was recorded as Christian Foth.
